Beginning on April 1, all government vehicles that have reached their 15-year lifespan will be scrapped in the city in an effort to phase out unsafe and polluting vehicles.
An official of the UT Transport Department stated that as a result of a notification from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, all government vehicles, including buses from the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking and vehicles connected with the Municipal Corporation, would be scrapped starting on April 1.
He claimed that all agencies had provided the department with information about such vehicles. They have compiled an inventory of 98 vehicles that will be scrapped, including eight CTU buses.
He added that the Certificate of Deposit (CoD) would be sent to the relevant departments after these cars were scrapped.
